AAN DIE GANG * ON THE GO!

Almal spring in!
Kyk rond.
We as a Committee would like to think we're getting somewhere in our efforts to turn our village and the Overstrand into the country's most sought-after destination. Yes, we try. But the most important contributions towards success come from the people of Onrus, sharing their energy, their expertise, willingness and financial means to help us achieve our communal goal. Thank you for the enthusiastic citizenship shown by so many who've made Onrus village their home!
Baie dankie .
This 'n That
Battle of the reeds. The Onrus River Lagoon Trust has purchased a floating platform at a cost of R20 000 that is being used to curb and remove reeds in the Onrus estuary.
A growing force. Overstrand Mayor, Theo Beyleveldt, has announced that the number of law enforcement officials in the Overstrand Municipal area has been increased from 19 in 2006 to 60 in 2008, promising a great benefit to Onrus itself.
Law Enforcement contact number: 028 313 8111.
O gaats!!
Pooh! to Epol burgers! Thank you to Elaine du Plessis for the erection of a practical, professionally designed bin for doggie droppings on Atlantic Drive. This allows pedestrians a clean route, free of unpleasant surprises! Elaine also removes and replaces the plastic bags. Residents who would like to "adopt” a bin near their houses and are willing to service it, please contact us. A reminder to dog walkers: Please respect the law of the leash and also pick up your pets pooh!!
No crackers please. Residents and holiday-makers, please abide by the law. Unless you have special permission from the Municipality, crackers and fireworks are a No-No. Please be sensitive towards our pets too – fireworks put them through tremendous stress.
As iemand sodanige oortredings raaksien, rapporteer dit asseblief by wetstoepassing. Tel: 028 313 8111.
Spring-cleaning for Sherwood Park: Unsightly branches, rubble and overgrown properties that have been an eyesore in Sherwood Park, recently received the attention of a team sent in by ORPA and the Mingle Market. A decent clean-up was launched, the Municipality removed unwanted objects, ORPA footed the bill ... and voilà! A shining Sherwood Park! We trust that the local residents will proudly maintain their new, cleaned-up surroundings.
Jy sal alles by www.onrusriver.co.za kry.
Mengelmarkie meer as 'n mark
Things are happening!
Caravan park. A house for the Park Manager is being erected and ablusion blocks are currently upgraded. The small ablusion block in the centre of the park has been demolished and a brand new block is being built. Before the surrounding fencing was erected, grading was not possible. After completion of the fence, we received a 2-star rating and the aim is to improve it to an all-stars rating! Bookings for accommodation can be made at 028-316 1704.
Main Road. The side-walk / bicycle track along Main Road up to the 4-way stop at Rheezicht Supermarket, is in an advanced stage of completion.
Parking will be paved and upgraded in phases at Wylie Park near the Onrus beach.
Streetlights In the interest of safety, several new streetlights have been erected in our village, as well as a securty light for Onrus Beach.
Walkway. Paving along De Villiers Street has been completed up to Krige Street.
Special Rating Area. The Work Committee of Ward 7 is currently looking into the formation of a Special Rating Area for Onrus and Vermont in the interest of better neighbourhood security and the general enhancement of the area. A letter in this regard will reach you soon. Our decision will depend on your response.
Thank you to the Overstrand Municipality and our councillor Ben Solomon for their contribution “in making things happen”.

OBBV u owerheid-konneksie
Where to voice your views?
- The Annual General Meeting of the Onrus River Ratepayers Association in the De Wet Hall on 18 December at 17:00.
- Monthly Ward Meetings (as advertised in the Hermanus Times)
- The ORPA Committee members or Councillor Ben Solomon.
Recently, a representative in Chanteclair was co-opted to monitor matters in that area and give feed-back to the Committee. Other areas that wish to be represented in the same way are welcome to contact ORPA.
Thank you for everybody's encouragement, assistance and financial support, helping to create 'Onrus magic', for everyone to enjoy!
